Last post was in March. Woa three months passed by just like that.

 In that three months, what I have done?

 I've got a job interview for the first time everrrrr in April, and now Alhamdulillah I'm working as a assistant project executive (aka assistant quantity surveyor) in a multi national company in KL. I am surprised that that company have quite big reputation. I don't have any idea when I applied to be part of that company. The company itself is good, they have like ISO thing going around plus they've just joined the big company which I'm kind of confuse. But its good. Really good. This is the first time I'm using measurement software to do estimates. It's faster than traditional excel. Plus, every Tuesday and Wednesday we will have our futsal in near KLCC and Damansara. I'm happy despite sitting at the front of the PC I'm able to sweat off.

 In May I participated in KL Towerthon 2013 which I have to run from ground level of KL Tower to the top of the KL Tower by using staircase. I've done it in around 29 minutes! Wohooo! And now I've just completed 5km charity run at The Mines where I ran for approximately 32 minutes. That's average time of me running.

On 10th till 12th December 2012, we had a trip to Kuantan, Pahang and Paka, Terengganu. It was a great learning experience in terms of education and socially. When we first arrived in Kuantan, we had lunch in the city, then move straight to the coastal protection in Pantai Batu Hitam, Kuantan. Basically the beach there was covered with naturally black stone. For few minutes we were there to look at the site and jumping around taking photos.



Then, we head on to our guesthouse which is located in Teluk Cempedak, Kuantan. Anjung Selesa Guesthouse (link) was a nice place to crash. We stayed in dorms, can accommodate 10 people, which is quite good for me. The bed was really comfortable. Recommended!

In the evening, we played beach football and rugby. Yes, rugby. Me in rugby game. Hahaha. Sampai terluka-luka kaki.

At night, we had our yaasin recitation then BBQ session. Also we played pusing botol which the person have to tell the truth on the question asked when the bottle point at him or her. Many answers were surprising! But what being said there, stays there. ;)

Trip is over, finally!

Well we gained some valuable knowledge there during our visits. Sadly this was our first and last trip for whole class.

So 14 weeks are over!

So on the 14th week on Wednesday, we had this QSM502 exhibition in our very own TEC 1 in FSPU, our class lah. This is one of the big thing we did for our programme other than Applied Studies.

Basically there were 7 groups and we were assigned to do a model based on a real project. On 14th week our lecturer will asks other department lecturers to assess our model. So here are the pictures.

Happy Independance Day to Malaysia! (It is NOT Malaysia's birthday okay)

Hey did you know, the cost for renovating for Sunway Pyramid's old wing toilets can buy a unit of house around RM250k? -_- The hand dryer cost around RM 2000 each. Heh.

I want to be able to play many muscial instruments.. And make songs. Hah.

Why am I writing these? Because not everyone knows what the hell is Quantity Surveying or in Malay, Ukur Bahan.

QSs are refer to those involved in taking-off building & subsequently compiling the data into Bills of Quantity (BQ). Sometimes, we are called as an Estimator or Building Economist or Building Cost consultant. In Malaysia, QS only existed in 60's or 70's.

The roles of QS:

1. To consult clients regarding the cost of the building
2. To advice in any construction project.
3. To approve the interim payment for contractors.
   
4. Dannnn sewaktu dengannyaaaa...

Taking-off, is a method where we calculate the elements of construction work like windows, roofs, doors, work below lowest floor finish and so on. The calculation is based on the drawing by architects and engineers. After taking-off, it is transfer to a BQ, where all the elements are compiled together for cost analysis. From there, we will know the price of the construction.

And as a QS, one must have the SMM2 book (for Malaysia) for guidance. It's like a 'holy book' for QS. And QS in Malaysia has an institution, called The Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia (ISM) and affiliated with Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in UK.
